Use observed stops to size the problem

Record where stops originate, how long they last and whether upstream or downstream machinery can continue safely. A buffer that covers a frequent short label-roll change may be useful; a buffer sized around an unresolved ten-minute process fault may consume space without improving sustained output.

Choose contact accumulation only when the pack permits it

Some rigid containers can collect with controlled back pressure. Lightweight, decorated, open, hot, unstable or pressure-sensitive packs may need low-pressure, single-file or no-contact handling. Test the fullest and least stable pack, including any liquid movement.

Accumulation works with controls. The upstream machine needs a reliable blocked signal before excessive pressure develops, and the downstream machine needs stable release rather than a sudden surge. Restart sequencing should preserve spacing and any product tracking used for coding or inspection.
